Each year the Ministry of Finance and the Czech National Bank submit the Czech Government jointly prepared material which evaluates the fulfilment of the Maastricht convergence criteria and the degree of economic alignment with the Euro Area.

The document has a fixed structure. The first part is focused, in accordance with the Treaty provisions and their interpretations, on the current and perspective performance of the Czech economy from the point of view of price stability, sound public finances, exchange rate and long-term interest rate development. The second part evaluates the readiness of the Czech Republic for becoming part of a wider monetary union from the perspective of optimum currency area. The material highlights the features of the Czech economy which speak in favour of Eurozone membership as well points to some bottlenecks which may pose some risks for macroeconomic stability. Following the recent institutional changes in the Eurozone governance new commitments for the Czech Republic are also mentioned.

The document concludes with the recommendation whether to seek membership in the ERM II exchange rate arrangement in the next year.
